Upgrade and old mididev.cfg

Hi,
Before upgrading should I save my current mididev.cfg, then replace the new one with that, so I do not have to type in all the bank and instrument names?

all best,
mgj

Re: Some orchestral music

Hi Kompozytor,
Actually there is an easy way to make the instruments that play the tone as written, but sound an octave higher or lower. Just click on Staff/transpose instrument key, then make sure...

Re: Some orchestral music

Hi Kompozytor,
Your pieces are brim full of interesting ideas, thematic, rhythmic and harmonic. I don't see why you repeat many short sections rather than developing the ideas they contain, but...

Re: The Search for Nelly Gray, IX Battle of the Bands

Hi Sherry,
It would be indeed to hear such a reenactment, even more interesting to hear what one was really like and observe the effects on the listening troops. I intended to include the author...

The Search for Nelly Gray, IX Battle of the Bands

In the evening, when opposing camps were near enough to hear, regimental bands were known to carry on the fighting by contending with each other. In this particular scene, the Union Major has...

Re: Piano quartet

Hi Kompozytor,
This and your other posts contain a number of musical ideas that I find very attractive and worthy of development into a full piano quartet. My string quartet looked much like these...

Re: The Song Is You

Hi Ralph,
I played this using the Merlin Creative soundfonts. I changed the piano staves from celesta to piano. Then played it, then again. Quite simply, I love this arrangement.
all best,

Re: Symphony 1, II Love in the Ruins of Time

Hi Adrian,
Thanks for the listen. In Staff / Tranpose...instrument key, the double basses are set to sound an octave below written. Could it be that the setting doesn't carry over to different...

Re: Romance For Viola and Piano

Hi Adrian, et al,
Your viola player is quite an artist.
I envy you all your sound engineering skills. If budget didn't block my way, the engineering still would. I spent hours and hours trying to...

Re: Poor Butterfly

Hi Ralph,
There are some size rules for attachments. .not, .mid, and .zip files can be up to 1.91 MB, which is too small for most .wav, or even .mp3 files. Mp3 files are already condensed, so...

Re: Poor Butterfly

Hi Ralph,
The change I made was through section D. It was the lowest note, actually, that made the dominant sound, which on my machine is a very loud click. I'm pretty sure it is the result of my...

Re: Poor Butterfly

Hi Ralph,
I should have used the phrase "with my system." I have the Audigy 2 sound card, with which I have and still have problems, e.g., hardware synths A and B if used together produce a blue...

Re: Tentative

Hi Yenney,
I didn't get a chance to comment on your first posting, but thoroughly enjoyed it.
"Tentative" lives up to its title, I think, and the sense of indecision gives it its charm. Adrian is...

Re: Poor Butterfly

Hi rrayner,
The drums diminished a bit my enjoyment of the piece because they seemed too dominant; so I tried diminishing the volume (nv 50) and everything leapt into life. The instrumentation is...

Re: Sweet Georgia Brown

Hi Rrayner,

Enjoyed your arrangement a great deal and a number of times. Brings back a whole montage of memories starting with the 78 RPMs my parents had and (unfortunately) are long gone. A...

Re: Getting better sounds inexpensively

Hi Sherry,
This is very interesting : "SynthFont has an option to "Activate MIDI Input." If you click that button, and run Composer, then SynthFont acts as the MIDI playback device, while you...

Re: New Symphonic Poem - Angel Meadow

Hi Adrian,

A bit Victorian. Agreed. The composersforum version is superior. Agreed. I very much like the music. I am not a huge fan of program music, but some of my favorite compositions are...

Re: The Santa Claus Sweater

Hi Sherry,
Where your feeling of nostalgia comes from, I couldn't even guess. Mine comes from the story of the title. I was putting something of Sara's into a memorabilia case when I spied the...

The Santa Claus Sweater

This may sound strange with MS Wavetable. I have that disabled, so can't really tell. I've used the Merlin soundfont collection for Creative sound cards, with the Hagi flute and a legato violin...

Re: musings...

Hi Skinter,

The problem is that when I am writing a poem, that is what I would substitute for "music," and if I am painting, I would say all art aspires to be a painting. Might it not be that...

I'm quite new to Facebook, so haven't used the search function much. I guess I should have entered "Ottawa", which would probably have made it easy.
The photos are very impressive. The...
