Re: Drum roll, please!

Hi, Rayner:

As long as the staff is set to midi channel 10, it really doesn't matter whether you check Drum Instrument or not. All that does is select the "drum" note heads for Composer's...

Re: adjust tempo

Hi,

I'm afraid Notation Player doesn't allow you to adjust the tempo of a midi file (or .not file).

It's intended specifically as a Player, not as an editor. It's also free.

Notation...

Re: Recording Multiple Instruments

Hi, Al and Sherry:

I have a DGX-500 (one of the ancestors of the YPT-200) and it only deals with type 0 midi files, ie., all of the tracks are saved as one track with each note having a specific...

Re: Change Pickup Beat Sounds

Hi, Al:

With my system, the pickup beats sound the same as the general metronome beats, whether running through internal sounds or outboard synths.

No idea what the situation is with yours.

Re: Change Pickup Beat Sounds

Hi, Al:

Under Perform/Metronome/Setup, you can change the sounds used by Composer for the metronome.

You can either select the computer "beep" sound or use your keyboard's drum channel sounds...

Re: rookie to notation

Hi,

You have to have some sort of midi connection between your keyboard and your computer -- many newer Yamaha keyboards have a direct USB connector, older ones have a midi output (sort of...

Re: philosophy of Music

Beethoven was a revolutionary; Hayden was a reactionary; Mozart was just plain nuts.

Beethoven admired Napoleon and his revolutionary stance until he saw what it was actually doing to the world. ...

Re: How to improve printing?

I'm producing an opera at the moment, with scores created in Sibelius. Apart from a few additional graphic elements, I honestly don't see a lot of difference in the printouts between Sibelius'...

Re: Select troubles

Hi, Marc:

You may need to uninstall and then reinstall Composer.

The behaviour you describe is very unusual and sounds (to me, at least) like a corrupted installation.

You may need to do a...

Re: Select troubles

There are two kinds of selection -- individual objects, which can be selected by clicking on them and region selection.

To select a region, hold down the Ctrl key and then click/drag the mouse...

Re: How to improve printing?

Hello, Telemiles:

Do you know what program the example you posted was created in?

The Harmony font that Notation Software products use is, I think, a more "modern" music font than that which is...

Re: Export Midi - chords lost

Hello, Bernd:

Do you mean the Chord Symbols above the score? Or do you mean a staff with chords (notes) in it?

Chord Symbols are not a part of the MIDI format -- they are a specific part of the...

Re: Change note duration

Hi, Eddie:

Use Shift-left arrow rather than D-right arrow.

D-right arrow increase the duration but leaves the note in its original place; Shift-arrow moves the note.

Move the note with...

Hi, Eddie:

Glad to see you're getting the hang of Composer.

As to the weather in the north of North America lately, as I said to someone in Texas once, I'd rather dig out from under a blizzard...

Re: Melisma and text editor

Hi, Eddie and Sherry:

I use the underscore character (shifted hyphen). Usually two or three are sufficient to stretch the lyric, as in: ro- __- ses.

That, combined with a slur in the notation,...

Re: Bass / Kick drum not sounding

Hi, pault:

Sometimes the kick drum is recorded on B, sometimes on C. C is the Midi drum channel standard. Some synths and drum machines respond to either, some to one or the other.

Try...

Re: NAMM 2011 has opened its doors

Yeah, the Matrixsynth site is swamped with new stuff. Pretty drool-worthy.

And, me stuck with only 8 sets of keys within arms' reach. Plus all the rest in other rooms, of course.

All the new...
