3 duets

Three short flute/piano duets that remind me of the years my wife and I played for quite a while almost every day. The idea to do them happened during a flu fever back in March. The Interlude is an...

Re: Transposing (only) one staff

Hi Snoops,
Yes you can transpose only one staff, but if I were going to make just a few measures 4 1/2 tones lower, the fastest way would be to select those measures (Ctrl and mouse drag). then move...

Re: Invention for Violin and Bass Guitar

Hi Sherry,

Have fun with it. I neglected to make the tempo annotation a quarter note = 115 to 135. It becomes a different piece almost at the slower tempo.

all best,

Invention for Violin and Bass Guitar

Two instruments not often heard as a duet. Thought I'd give it a try. I don't know that much about the bass guitar, so perhaps somebody might point out which double stops would require a hand the...

Re: Fred Winterling has passed away

Hi Sherry,

Thanks for the update. I think of Fred often; it's pretty hard not to miss him still. I don't know all the details, but I'm not sure I'd agree that it would be a blessing for anyone...

Re: Volume

Hi,
For what it's worth, I have many times found a no-sound problem. I check all the things Sherry mentioned and at some point remember that the computer has recently been off and the master plug...

Re: The Heather on the Hill

Hi Ralph,
"Brigadoon" has been a special favorite of mine since high school (which was a few years before retirement;) It's a fine love story, with a relevant sub-plot re-enforcing the central one....

Re: Downloading Problem

Hi all,
When I download and install anything, including Composer--trial, full and web update--I always have AVG AV/Firewall running, as well as Threatfire, which seeks files that may engage in...

Re: Other media players open and play MIDI files in your browser

Hello all,
This will work in Firexfox with tabbed browsing, and should in any tabbed bowser. If you have a .not file you want to play in your browser, click for it to open in a new tab, and choose...

Re: philosophy of Music

Hello,
Good luck dealing with a rather vague question. Does "classical thinkers" refer to philosophers, like Voltaire, Rousseau, Newton, Descarte, etc. Or does it refer to a group of composers,...

Re: In Memoriam: Mark Walsen

I have been sitting here, for I'd guess an hour, first grappling with belief that Mark is gone; next going over all the words associated with the time of funerals, and finally recalling a sermon by...

Re: Hallelujah

Hi Ralph,
Enjoyed this one, too. I used the Merlin Creative soundfonts, which seems to work best with my sound card. Not only does the timpani sound very good, I don't hear any calliope. It all...

Re: Latest file won't open

Hi Sherry,
Correct. The old mididev.cfg was the only one present in the folder. The first thing I did after re-starting was to check the \Composer folder in Explorer. I suspect Threatfire noticed...

Re: Latest file won't open

Hi Sherry,
It went quite well. I feel the problem was not giving Threatfire the correct answer. With that disabled, there was my old mididev.cfg file. It took me a while to figure out that I had...

Re: Latest file won't open

Hi Sherry,
Actually I was updated from 2.51 according to Add/remove programs. You had sent a 2.5.2 exe which worked and which I've been using for many months, so still can't figure out why only the...

Re: Latest file won't open

Addendum.
I have solved one problem, that of getting the file to open. I renamed Composer.exe, which I have been using all along, to 2.52.bac and read in the exe file for version 2.51. The file ...

Re: My latest piece - nonet

Hi Adrian,
Enjoyed on first and each following listen. I appreciate the way you build melodic sections, instrument changes, and mood swings around the three note motif, in such a way that the motif...

Re: Out of This World

Hi Sherry and Ralph,
It could be a cosmic ray. It would certainly fit with the title. I forgot to mention how much I like the two melodic horn passages. Wish I knew why, when the whole...

Re: Out of This World

A pleasure, as usual. I have the Merlin Creative sound fonts loaded, and it sounds fine. Did you consider using sound changes to distinguish the vibes from the harp? Just change one or the other...

Ditto to what David said. I would add that I am pretty sure I tried every notational program that existed several years ago, and my final choice was made between Composer and a French...

It is Celtic, all right, and I like it, especially the whistle. At times I think I hear a creeping realization of homesickness, but it always recovers--interesting quiet little...

Re: The Search for Nelly Gray, IX Battle of the Bands

Hi Ralph,
Thanks. Basically I am arranging the work of others, too in the oratorio. I start with the melodies and words then harmonize and orchestrate as seems fitting. A lot of the arranging...
